Sister Jamie

You left too soon

at the New Year’s full moon

during a storm

alone unprotected

in a hotel room.

You took your precious life

with psychotic prescribed pills

medication that was meant to keep you sane.

Why did you go so cruelly,

every day we suffer

could we have saved you

from your mental toil, depression

schizophrenia, and confusion?

We will never know.

Years I watched your behavior

and torture, your hurts, and pain

the crazy anger and made-up names.

My delicate, beautiful, smart, young

sister I helped raise you being 10 years younger

We loved, taught, and played with you

saw all the stages: youth,

marriage, mother, grandmother

but the wild lonely mind of a mentally deranged brain

had no bounds.

You left us wondering, sad and pondering

Love has to rule in memory of you.

Let’s come together gather to remember mysterious, golden, long-limbed,

smart, spirited Jamie-we could not save but loved dearly.
